Facebook Ads Targeting Guide for Myanmar Businesses

Facebook remains one of the most-used platforms in Myanmar, and its ad targeting options are powerful — but only if you understand how to use them for your specific audience rather than defaulting to the broadest possible settings.

Start With Core Audiences Based on Real Customer Traits

Facebook’s Core Audience targeting lets you filter by location, age, gender, interests, and behaviors. Resist the temptation to target too broadly “just to be safe” — a tightly defined audience based on your actual customer profile typically performs better and costs less per result than a vague, wide net.

Use Location Targeting Precisely

For businesses serving specific townships or cities, Facebook lets you target by radius around a pin, not just by broad region. A tighter radius around your actual service area reduces wasted spend on people who could never realistically become customers.

Build a Custom Audience From Your Existing Contacts

If you have a customer email list or phone numbers, Facebook’s Custom Audiences feature lets you target ads specifically to people you already have a relationship with — often the highest-converting audience available, since they already know your business.

Create Lookalike Audiences Once You Have Enough Data

Once your Custom Audience has enough people (typically at least a few hundred), Facebook can build a Lookalike Audience of new people who share characteristics with your best existing customers — a powerful way to find new prospects who resemble people who already buy from you.

Don’t Ignore Placement Options

By default, Facebook spreads your ad across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and the Audience Network. Reviewing performance by placement after a week or two often reveals one or two placements driving most of your results — worth narrowing to once you have that data.

Test More Than One Audience at a Time

Rather than betting your entire budget on a single audience guess, split a modest budget across 2-3 different audience definitions early on, and let the data show you which one actually performs — then concentrate spend there.

Good targeting isn’t about finding one perfect audience on the first try — it’s about testing a few reasonable hypotheses, measuring honestly, and doubling down on what the data shows is actually working.
